A simplified, low-cost form of Scottish bankruptcy designed for people with very low income and minimal assets. Discharge comes in just 6 months.
The Minimal Assets Process (MAP) is a fast-track form of sequestration (bankruptcy) introduced for people who have very little income and minimal assets. It was designed to provide a dignified and affordable route to debt clearance for those who simply cannot sustain any form of debt repayment plan.
To qualify for MAP, you must meet all of the following criteria:
No monthly payments: Unlike a PTD or full sequestration with income contributions, MAP does not require you to make ongoing payments to creditors from your income. This makes it the most accessible formal debt solution for those on the lowest incomes.
MAP is suitable for a very specific group - low income, minimal assets, debts under £17,000. If you earn a regular wage and your debts exceed £17,000, a Protected Trust Deed will almost always be more appropriate. The PTD gives you a structured, controlled process with more certainty about what happens to your home and professional status.
